I think people will be more hopeful in a few weeks if this deal holds. We've seen many ceasefires fail in this conflict so far. Gaza is not really a united entity at this point, so isolated Hamas cells could very well use this as an opportunity to attack. The IDF also seems ready to return to full scale invasion at the slightest sign of any resistance.

There have also been 2 years of folks on the pro-Israel side talking about the complete elimination of Gaza with jokes about real estate deals and open mockery of the suffering. That didn't just disappear. On top of that, the end goal of this deal seems to be a return to the 2023 status quo, which is what led to the current conflict.

I'm hopeful that this works out, but you can't just pretend that we didn't have 2 years of rhetoric just didn't happen and I see nothing in this deal that has any kind of long term solution to the overall conflict.

EDIT: Some of the comments are just insane. I don't know how anybody could take this as some kind of pro Hamas comment. This isn't a fairytale. There aren't good guys and bad guys. Anybody who thinks either side in this was 100% justified needs professional help.

Imagine you return home - half your extended family dead and your childhood neighbourhood blown to pieces - “but we good now right?”

Barack Obama is not a good name to evoke when it comes to peace in the middle east tbh. 

Israel violated this ceasefire 2hrs into it. They violated every ceasefire with their other neighbors in 2024 and 2025 as well. We have a rudimentary enough understanding of history to understand that colonial projects do not just stop because a treaty was signed (I'm assuming you're American, you should have that same understanding). 

For the Palestinians this ceasefire is some of the best news they've had in years. They deserve some reprieve. For us in the West? This is not *the* win. This is just step 1. The architects and contributors of this genocide still need to be held accountable, but our president is already calling for amnesty for the chiefly responsible person, Netanyahu. The Palestinians in the West Bank were actively being attacked by settlers during this ceasefire which only were more emboldened by the genocide and openly supported by the govt.

I would even argue as Hamas currently hunts down Palestinian "collaborators" their oppressive hold over Gaza is exponentially strengthened. No one caring about those Palestinians tells any potential resistance to Hamas that resisting is futile. They will be abandoned by the world and killed immediately without issue and if anything it will only help Hamas. They have a better chance of survival hiding from IDF bombs than freeing themselves from Hamas control.

Add the fact that Hamas still sees Oct. 7 and all the civilian deaths as a win and part of the plan, and I don't see how you can even begin to wonder if this will lead to lasting peace.

The problem for me, is not that palestine is of course the clear loser, but that Israel wont be held accountable for clear, multiple, well documented cases of massive transgressions of international law and human rights. Humaniarian aid for civilians has somehow slippery sloped into becoming a bargaining chip?

Nothing will last until 2 things happen:

1) The West accepts the reality that most Palestinians (and most neighboring Arabs) view Israel as an occupying force simply by *existing*. When they say Israel is occupying and must be resisted - they do not mean West Bank / Gaza. This is evidenced consistently in polls, statements, and actions over the past 90 years. 

2) Global pressure (led by the West) alters the education of Palestinian youth to not learn to hate Israel and yearn to 'take back' all of Palestine or even only Jerusalem. This will take decades even when done properly.

Only then will there be a chance at long term stability.

P.S. - yes we all know some Israelis want to take over more of the West Bank, but that percentage is like 10-15% (whereas about 70-80% of Palestinians want to take back all the land). Most Israelis just want to be left alone and would gladly accept peace vs. territorial expansion.

I am worried for three reasons.

1. Isreal has violated dozens of ceasefires over the years. Why would they stick to this one?

2. If they do violate it, it is entirely unbelievable to me that the international community will significantly sanction them, leading me to wonder what their incentive not to do so is.

3. A genocide has taken place and it seems to me clear that the perpetrators are going to get off scot free. Until I see every perpetrator and every IDF commander in Nuremberg-style trials with Nuremburg-style sentences, I will doubt very much the international community and Isreal's commitment to peace. At the moment it's as if WWII ended and Hitler is still in power, offering to help out the Jews a bit.

You must be too young to know that these ceasefire have been happening intermittently for forty years. 

Israel usually orchestrates some narrative about Hamas violating the ceasefire and resumes obliteration.

Well, I agree with you. In the spirit of the sub though:

Hamas representatives are currently say they don’t want to disarm, don’t want Hamas soldiers to leave the government body (they want them to be integrated as soldier or police), and they don’t want an international theocracy in place. 

There is a lot of phase two that is yet to be agreed on from the Hamas side. They are killing IDF collaborators this week. They are also dressing in police uniforms this week which they haven’t during the course of the war (usually in civilian clothing). Probably as a statement of intention to be involved. 

On the other side Trump is already building the theocracy and has had offers from wealthy Arab nations to have a seat at the table. There is a part of the deal going ahead without Hamas recognition. But they no longer have bargaining chips since they have released the 20 live hostages. They are currently withholding the bodies of some of the dead hostages in violation of their agreement. 

There is a ceasefire. But there is also details that are not hammered out. 

Trump made it seem that Hamas accepted the entire 20 point peace plan as a bluff. But the reality is Hamas is in checkmate but still not going down willingly. They do have amnesty if they give up. I believe they still have some 7,000 soldiers. 

Largely speaking there is going to be peace as Trump and other countries pretty much ignore Hamas and act as if the entire deal is on. Hamas is still convinced they can remain and will likely try to sway opinion that way and stoke the fires of protest around the world as long as they can. Some skirmishes may result. 

But largely it is a done deal with Israel agreeing not to annex any Palestinian territory which was the main concern. Those who were fearful of ethnic cleansing are cautiously optimistic. 

Israelis believe that Palestinians lost their chance at a state because of the October 7th attack, which was largely done in areas of people who recognized the Palestinian cause the most. They believe that war is just kicked down the road 5, 10, 20 years. 

Hamas currently does not want to decommission weapons but hand over to Palestinian state with their fighters in Palestinian army or police. But they agree to a proposition of five to ten years of ceasefire. 

Prior to the war the intent of the Palestinian side was overwhelmingly to retake all of Israel. They have seen overwhelming support from the world for this. About 50% of their population is under 18. It is very possible that the conflict continues. And Israelis become less inclined to tolerate further insurrections. 

There is the opportunity for a lasting ceasefire of 5-10 years. But the likelihood as well would just continue. Israel has also been known to preemptively strike in conflicts in a region that pools its resources aligned against them. And they also do want to completely finish Hamas, one of their war aims which they think hasn’t completely finished. 

Another part of the peace plan is destroying the terror tunnel infrastructure underneath the city. Which can meet its own resistance of non compliance like has happened before. 

Largely there is the prospect of peace. But also the sense that in a few years time the conflict will return as usual. People on Reddit are largely pro Palestine. And do not recognize that it is the Palestinian people largely instigating. Therefore the sentiment is that Israel will break the peace. Yes they have unfinished business with Hamas. But they also value relations with the US. And other trade partners in the region. So I think if Hamas doesn’t surrender they can strike. But if they do they likely won’t.

Some key points I remember from their coverage contradicts some of what you have said;

These criticisms of Israel and the peace deal seem pretty reasonable to me. But at the same time there is stuff worthy of praise and hope - which their coverage showed. I don't think their coverage is perfect - like most news I think they beat the drums of *doom and gloom* because that is what gets attention. But it seems to me like they are highlighting real issues. Is doing that "too negative"?

If you don't know about Novara Media then we can talk about another specific person or group whose statements you want to discuss - but discussing what "people in general" are saying is a dead end because "people in general" are saying a lot of things.

I am really glad that Gazans are no longer suffering as horribly as they have been. I hope they can now get the healthcare, food, water, and housing they need.

I’m personally pretty negative because it shouldn’t have taken this for aid to be allowed in. That should never have been blocked in the first place. Beyond whatever (lack of) trust I have that Israel will hold to the ceasefire, I’m looking at the decades of history of the aid restrictions on Gaza. Beyond the human rights issues, this isn’t how you treat people you intend on maintaining a peaceful relationship with. 

I believe that the agreed line will de facto become the new border between Israel and Gaza, whether they officially annex it or do as they are in the West Bank - establish a government-subsidised settlement and lock the Palestinians out. 

There’s also a population of two million people (hopefully the larger casualty estimates are overstated!) with severe trauma and PTSD, and solid reason to hate Israel for what they’ve done. Whatever people may say about Hamas having no motive for further conflict, there have got to be thousands of traumatised orphans with nothing much to live for, and that’s a ripe field to harvest terrorists from.

I just don’t see Hamas cooperating with Trump after he’s openly said he’s going to forcefully remove them and making all the cringe ai about turning Gaza into a resort. Hamas gained power through the west gaming Palestinian leadership and misleading them since the 20’s while Zionists pushed for more and more land while Palestine was seeking help and answers internationally, Hamas is the result of that anger and frustration of inaction and manipulation.

Hamas has every reason to keep attacking. 


1) as you say in the immediate point, if Israel attacks (even if it's a counter attack), Israel will likely be condemned, which is in Hamas interest. 


2) who controls Gaza going forward is going to be messy. Will a third party step in? Will the PA step in? Will Hamas remain in control? Will other local parties attempt to gain control? The idea that violence in Gaza is over is short-sighted if only because fighting within Gaza is inevitable until one of these groups dominates the rest. 


3) given that 2 is inevitable, it spilling into Israel is inevitable, either by accident or by collateral damage (if not intentionally so). So inevitably, an Israeli citizen will be killed - at which point who knows what will happen. 


Also, Israel hasn't said it would stop either.


Lots of people have told Bibi to stop. He hasn't said that he would. He has said that he will continue operations in Gaza. Not the whole scale war, but still non-zero intervention. So, there's that. 


It's good that the hostages were released. It is good to stop fighting for one day. Even better if it lasts a week. But there are lots of reasons to believe that this cannot last long term.

Sure, Gaza is not a fully sovereign state. It however functions as a state within itself. You call it “local-administration”, sure, of the entire geographical area of Gaza, and 2 million plus people. 

Israel rightly cites security concerns, we’ve seen what happens if they’re not ultra-conscious of it. Waves of suicide bombings, or ya know - having music festivals murdered and pillaged. Rocket attacks as a cherry on top.

First, Hamas is still in power and they are evil. They are bad for any hope of actual peace with Israel. They are bad for the people living in gaza. The past two days have seen multiple reports that they are going around Gaza and executing any potential rivals for power. Not only are they executing them but they are executing them on live stream video and parading around the dead bodies. They are looking to control Gaza through a mix of power and fear.  In the past, their control has meant that money and supplies sent into Gaza to help the people living there ended up controlled by the terrorist group and were used for weapons, bunkers, and tunnels. Hamas (or whatever rebrand they go with) in control of Gaza will not get anyone to a brighter future.

Second, the agreement was that all of the kidnapped people would be returned, both dead and alive. So far the living people have been released but of the dead, only 7 of the 28 have been released. We initially thought it was 8 bodies released but after forensic identification, one of the four handed over last night is an unknown Gazan. That is not boding well for Hamas holding up its end of the agreement.

There are many reasons to be cautious about the ceasefire and peace agreement:
1. Israel continued bombing and attacking Gazans after the ceasefire was signed and ratified by the Knesset. 
2. Israeli backed militia murdered a journalist after the ceasefire. While those who did the killing were executed by security forces, they were not the only ones and Israel had been using them as Hamas false flags when it has been convenient to do so such as raiding aid trucks. Why would they stop using them now? They could be used as a proxy to continue attacks on Gazans or to start another conflict with Hamas. Or to fire rockets at Israel to make it seem like Hamas is breaking the ceasefire. 
3. After the ceasefire and before the hostages were released, DM Israel Catz stated the plan is to explode all the tunnels in Gaza. This would likely raze the entire city. And all the surrounding areas
4. Israel has broken every single agreement that they have had with the Palestinians and with any other country that they have had agreements with. Given this track record, it would be foolish in the extreme to take them at their word. 
5. There is nothing left of Gaza City and Northern Gaza. Nothing. Nothing but dust. While many are relieved. Most are incredibly heartbroken and traumatized. I'm not even speaking of Palestinians on the ground. I'm speaking of Palestinians in the diaspora, allies, friends, colleagues. I think it's totally normal for people to be taking this moment not to celebrate, but just to breathe. And in that time a lot of anger and grief and loss that they have not been able to process will likely come up. So, I think it is unhelpful to look at people's reactions to this ceasefire right now as being too negative or pessimistic. It literally just happened. Figure out what it means for you and how you want to move forward. I think a range of emotions is absolutely to be expected in this situation.

The settlers never really stopped killing, torturing, and stealing homes from Palestinians, so no one should expect Hamas to stop attacking anytime soon.

People call Hamas terrorists, but to me, it's clear they are just enraged that their homes and lives have been stolen from them since 1948. Think about it—they have nothing left to lose.

This conflict won't end until Israel eventually wipes all Palestinians off the map. Hamas is, at best, an armed militia, while Israel is a military power with unbelievable internet surveillance that shuts down any and all criticism. They pour money into governments; mayors and even lower-level Western politicians are paid to speak for them, all while being supported by billionaires worldwide.

It's only a matter of hours before the destruction begins again, if it ever stopped at all. What's worse, soon you could be jailed for saying anything negative about Israel.

On one hand I agree with you.  The hostages were always a non-negotiable position and I’m not sure why the world felt it was reasonable to demand that Israel stop the war without retrieving their hostages.  It was never going to happen. 

But now the hostages have been returned, so peace is actually possible.  

The hostages though were a necessary condition, not a sufficient condition.  Two atrocities happened on October 7th:

A)over a thousands Israelis were killed

B) 250 hostages were taken

The second issue has been resolved, but the first issue has potentially not been resolved.  The later stages of the agreement call for Hamas to disarm and relinquish power.  Unfortunately, Hamas has already declared that they have no intention of doing so.  

As a result, it is reasonable for people to believe that the war will start up again.  Netanyahu absolutely has no problems with the war continuing, so if Hamas gives him an excuse he will take it.  And it does appear that Hamas is setting up to give him that excuse.

People are rightfully negative about that ceasefire. All it did was give HAMAS another lesson that capturing hostages is a valid tool against Israel, and whatever brutality they commit, they'll be shielded from consequences. They got 2000 of their prisoners IIRC for a couple dozen Israeli hostages. They will continue receiving foreign aid. Those responsible for the hostage-taking will not face any consequences, including a JDAM of justice right on their head, because the world will then scream about the ceasefire being broken by Israel. All this ceasefire does is prepare another, even more brutal Oct 7. All this ceasefire does is buy time for Israeli civilians to GTFO or get their country to treat HAMAS as a threat it is. Given Israel's track record in letting HAMAS do literally anything to its citizens for the sake of appeasing the global public, its wakeup is unlikely despite all the suffering inflicted on Israel by HAMAS and those who payroll it from Iran and beyond.

Israel wants full demilitarization of Hamas. Hamas has stated they will never hand over weapons unless it is to a Palestinian run government with the ability to protect itself. Israel will never allow a Palestinian run government with the ability to protect itself. 
Knowing this, the “demilitarized zone” can actually be viewed as just further Israeli colonization, as that land will never be returned to the Palestinians.

Don’t get me wrong. I am happy for the ceasefire and the reprieve for the Palestinian people. But both side have previously stated red lines, that the other side will require crossing. As Palestine has no power in this situation, they will resort to individual violent acts. This will give Israel a reason to continue to the war and further ethnic cleansing. 

There is very little hope given the powers running the situation and their obvious goals.

If you look at the history of the region it's understandable why ppl are saying this is going to fail. Which in my mind is only more reason for us all to pray/meditate to what ever god or power's you believe in that it doesn't fail. (I do believe there's an untapped power in us, that allows us to change certain outcomes through group/mass prayer and meditation, irrespective of any specific deity.)


One huge area of concern though and I think it's justified, is several of the ppl Israel released are truly monsters. I don't see them stopping just because there's papers signed. With that being said, it's not going to stop me from hoping and praying it is a success!

Based on the deal the people of Palestine are still not free, and still being governed by other who are not themselves. I'll admit its a relief to hear the blood thirsty IDFs innocent killing of civilians especially children may take a pause (hopefully for good) but the fear will be the cres of this genocide that we are going to uncover. Many of us who were aware of what Israel was going to do after October 7th because prior to it mowing the law as they would say was totally fine and was not well covered by the mainstream media nor the illegal siege they were under.

Judaism teaches that the end of days will not come until the temple is rebuilt - but that would mean having to destroy the Muslim site "Dome of the rock".

Islam teaches that judgement day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims kill them - and that Muslims must fight to regain any land that is taken from them by force.

So, both sides have beliefs that require them to subdue the other. Instead of wanting the day of judgement to come about, it would be nice if both parties realised that not ending the world is actually the better option.

They have a ceasefire, not peace - I am not sure if they will ever have peace whilst there is religion.

I don't think it's negativity  - it's educated skepticism based on decades of never-ending conflict.

Yes, a ceasefire and hostage release is great. But there is a big picture here. This wasn't the first ever ceasefire and I doubt it will be the last.

But I'll acknowledge the conflicting feelings in terms of giving Trump any kind of "win". 

He's an objectively horrible person, but he did seem to have some hand in this. Granted, I'm still not certain what. But its doubtful that his intentions were altruistic. He's made tons of awful comments about leveling Palestine.

But we also have to remember Trump's first term and blunders made in regards to Israel and the middle east. 
Like moving the embassy. That was a really bad idea.

One such peace deal is unlikely to change Hamas’s objectives which is annihilation of Israel. Official Islamic states rarely standby their agreements. So its reasonable that people doubt longevity of this deal.

It just seems that Hamas needed a long break to reorganise and regroup to rain hell on Israel again. They were cut off from rest of the world and they had no end in sight, nothing was working for them really. So this peace deal gives them an exit.

Irrespective of what you think of IDF, no goodwill should be associated with Hamas for releasing the hostages. Those hostages didn’t drop from sky into Hamas’s captivity.

We haven’t even gotten to grieve yet. What is there to celebrate about the entire world sitting and letting a holocaust happen on live? What is there to celebrate about these people still being under blockade, returning to rubble of their homes, finding their loved ones decomposed remains, knowing there are more they won’t reach maybe ever? Let’s look at this from this perspective, what did gaza gain out of all of this? Why did hamas do what they did? 

Gaza is not free, Gazans do not have a better life, matter of fact their life is probably at least double as worse as it was before the war, now I am not talking about the cause of this, have it be Hamas who triggered it or Israel who caused it since this will open a completely different line of debate which is not what we are talking about now.

From the Palestinian perspective, not much was achieved really, let’s break this into what I know (I will not claim to know everything):

1- Some countries recognized Palestine which to be honest doesn’t make that much of a difference if the same atrocities are still happening on a daily basis.

2- Around 2000 prisoners were freed? Yeah more than a 100 thousand people were slaughtered so again not as much of a W as people seem to make it out to be.

3- The IDF was exposed for its crimes, doesn’t make a difference if they’re not held accountable to those crimes.

4- Hamas is to strip all of its weaponry, so the only resistant movement is about to be completely neutralized.

From an Israeli point of view this is perfect though.

None of the incredibly complex, large scale issues underpinning this decades long conflict have been addressed yet. Hamas have specifically said they won't disarm. There is nothing concrete about how all the complex stuff in the plan will be addressed in practice. Just a couple of weeks ago Trump wouldn't let Abbas travel to the UN. Now they've met and shaken hands. 

Things may well pan out but those of us around for a few decades have seen this movie before and no how it ends. The Oslo Accords were the best chance at peace we've ever had and things have got significantly worse since then.

I think the people who are pessimistic are the ones who are aware of how the previous flare ups in this 75-year-old conflict died out. As long as there are no serious systemic changes in the ways both of those societies operate this too shall pass and we’ll be back here in a few years at most. I really would love to be wrong here, but I genuinely don’t see much reason for long-term optimism. I am however glad that today thousands of families will be rejoined with their loved ones, the ones suffering are not the instigators here regardless of which country we’re talking about.

It is just a break between wars. Hamas is weakened but still pretty firmly in control and already executing its opponents. You talk about the humanitarian city in Rafah as if it was on the table or was the current plan moving forward but I am not sure it is? I mean, I have heard nothing of it for months (last article I can find on it is from late July). I certainly don't think Israel is looking forward to administer a city of 600 000-2 million people which would practically be a huge slum... all this while keeping food, hygiene and other supplies to such a level to avoid a Boer camp-level debacle. Oh, and also maintaining security around the perimeter and checking everyone who comes in and out.

But mainly I doubt Israel wants to have anything hands-on to do with Gaza after agreeing to the Trump plan if they can avoid it (beyond exercising something similar to the Lebanon anti-Hezbollah bombings). They would prefer to outsource all the hard work to the Gaza International Transitional Authority. I suppose it is an open question if GITA attempts to pick up this "humanitarian city" plan, especially since we didn't get to the point where attempts to disarm Hamas according to the plan have been made or even to where GITA exists. But even if such humanitarian cities were to be built, I do not think there are any guarantees it would follow Katz's proposal closely.

In this day and age, democracies will almost always lose wars. Why? Because of the leftist media and academia. You have correctly identified the eighth front being the “media front”. Indeed, the media is a participant in this war and most other wars where western countries have been involved.

I don’t think Gaza’s total destruction is the only likely outcome—just the most extreme one. A more natural and historically consistent outcome is that, over time, the Palestinian population adapts. Romantic arguments about “you can’t kill an idea” make for great slogans, but history shows people abandon causes when the costs become generationally unsustainable.

Eventually—maybe after a couple more cycles of war and displacement—the dominant will likely shift from resistance to survival. That could mean accepting a much smaller, weaker, and more fragmented version of a state—far worse than what was on the table in 1948, 1967, Oslo, 2005, or 2008. Not because it's fair, but because it’s what’s left.

I'm a lot more optimistic than yourself. Here are few things to consider -   
1) At least currently, the rate of death/removal of land isn't compatible with "wiping out Gaza". That is not to say that there aren't a lot of dead Palestinians and that is not to say that any life of a single Palestinian person aren't valuable - just that for more than a year now there are more Palestinians born in Gaza than Palestinians that died, and this is when you include Hamas militants in the calculation.  Same goes for Palestinians that left Gaza. At the start of the war a meaningful amount left, but after that not so many.  
This is not to diminish the suffering or anything, just to say that for your end to be the "likely" end, we would have to see a significant increase in those parameters.   
  
2) Majority of Israelis have showed in polls consistent support for the end of the war - and this majority grows as time progresses. (I know, some people in the comments would want to bring the one outlier poll with the poor methodology about the 82%, this is not how statistics work). This is already seen in Israel reducing the number of reservists they enlist, because many of them simply don't want to come for a war they want to end. This makes the increase from (1) significantly less likely - there is no internal support for such a move. That being said - the current Israeli gov (which according to polls loses by a large margin to its opposition) still has about a year+ left in office.

3) Lastly, IDK how close you follow the news, but there are some signs that Hamas loses its power completely. Some of these signs include the PA saying worse and worse things about Hamas (for the first time they said that October 7 was horrible), there are armed militias (that Israel helped arm - something that isn't consistent with occupying Gaza btw) that openly go against Hamas, and the Gazan protests against Hamas continue. The weaker Hamas are, the less commanders they have remaining, the better the offers that Israel is likely to get. Currently, any offer that was put on the table had Hamas remaining in some capacity in Gaza. Once this is gone - ideally it's easier to push Hamas to relinquish power and give back the hostages. If this happens - it's really hard to justify the continuation of the war - both to the Israeli public (that its opinions matter) and to the US. 

4) Lastly, notice that there are reports in recent days about Trump saying to Netanyahu he wants to see an end the war soon. Seems like Trump went back from his riviera plan.

Why would that end the conflict?

The West Bank would still be a source of contention, and enough former-Gazian Palestinians live overseas to cause trouble at some future point.

The only end to the conflict is a diplomatic one, where both sides make concessions and find agreement over common grounds. Unfortunately, the leadership on both sides is probably going to have to change before this becomes a possibility—but it's still the only real resolution; anything else is just a pause while one side or the other regroups.

A one state solution is possible. Everyone can live together under a free, fair, democratic country. 

Israel supported and tolerated the religious groups that became Hamas. Their goal was to allow the religious extremist groups to gain power to squash the secular Palestinian Liberation movement. 

This just ended with the fight for Palestinians in gaza being tied to religious extremism. Which was great PR for Israel. 

However, it's not true. These are real people, both in Gaza and in Israel, who just want to live their lives. They could easily live in harmony. 

Jews, Muslims, and Christians lived together in the area for centuries. The modern conflicts began after the rise of Zionism, and specifically the Balfour declaration, where the British promised the Palestinians a nation if they revolted against ottomon rule, and they also promised the same area to Zionists for a Jewish state. Then European settlers started coming and in displacing natives from their homes and villages. That's when the fighting started. 

It's not impossible for them to coexist. 

This can be ended by a state where all people have equal rights, instead of the apartheid system that is currently set up. 

The issues that prevent that: 
The right of return. Palestinians aren't given the right of return to their ancestral homelands, but Jewish people who's families haven't lived their for millenia are given that right. 

Ethnonationalism: Israel is a Jewish state. That automatically puts a certain group in a higher social status than the others 

Mutual mistrust and trauma: the decades of fighting will leave lasting scars that need to be addressed to be able to allow healing. 

I don't see a reason why these issues would prevent them from being able to live together. They're certainly much better than genocide.
